Afghan Territory
Including all of the former Afghanistan and Turkmenistan,
as well as portions of the former nations of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan,
and Kazahkstan, the Afghan Territory was established in 2044 at the close
of the Afghan War. With independence fever raging around the war, the folk
that inhabitated what would become the Afghan Territory demanded all regional
governments to be dissolved in favor of a return to the localistic governing
performed by individual communities (nomadic or otherwise). The Afghan
War, which lasted from April 2042 to August of 2044 established the "individual"
authorities in the region, which was later given a set of vague borders
by the United Nations.

don't have a central government, or even a central set of laws for that

Council of Islam
Occupying much of what used to be Iraq, the central
portion of the former Saudi Arabia, and a considerable portion of Jordan
and Syria, the Council of Islam came into existence in the early part of
the 2030s. The Awakening was spreading fear throughout the Middle East.
"The End was near." A charismatic Islamic leader emerged and consolidated
his power, uniting province after province under his control in a new theocracy
to protect the Faith against the "abominations" the Awakening was bring
to the world. One of the most powerful countries in the Middle East, the
Council of Islam has a significant military and boasts some of the most
loyal troops in the world.

small country in the western portion of the region known as Southwest Asia >>>>>[Which

active district, the Damascus League maintains uncomplicated, friendly diplomatic
and economic ties with 96% of the countries in existence. It has also opened
its borders to all megacorporations, whom they allow to freely set up shop provided
the Damascus League recieves ample compensation for the degree of autonomy they
permit the corporate entities. However, the Damascus League is usually content
with free defense contracts, considering it does not have a sizeable or well-trained
military of its own.

Damascus League you are born with five shares to your name, though they
do not become activated until your eighteenth birthday. Graduation from
a public high schools nets you two more shares. Two more for graduation
from college and an additional share for every advanced degree held. Not
surprisingly, you can sue people for shares rather than money. Imagine
that, being sued right down to your voting privileges. Harsh.]<<<<<

that same vein, let me point out something interesting. I was just in
Damascus and had contact with a certain client who was the leader of a
small time organized criminal organization there. What he did in order
to "secure" his employees, was to have them sign over all of their shares/voting
privileges to him. That way he had two advantages: a larger voting block
and his employees "disappear" from D.L. records.]<<<<<

Egyptian Imperial State
Occupying most of East Africa, particularly along
the Red Sea coast, the Egyptian Imperial State was created in 2037 when
a charismatic mage led a series of successful revolts throughout the region.
Under his guidance, the revolt resulted in the overthrow of several governments
and the unification of a vast tract of land, which the mage claimed was
his ancestral birthright. With his dynasty well established by 2039, he
further consolidated his power, proclaiming himself Pharoah and setting
up a complex caste system to be adhered to by his subjects.

line of succession is pretty fluid, and constantly changing because
the various "princes" are vying for their position, hiring assassins

Free Arab Republic
At constant odds with the Council of Islam, the Free
Arab Republic is a democratic society which formed in response to the growing
theocratic fervor to its north. When the region after region began to fall
to the zealous leaders of the Council of Islam, several provinces banded
together to form an alliance to protect certain democratic ideals. It wages
a constant battle with its northerly neighbor, who is at all times moving
to assimilate it. The FAR has a moderately sized, though well-trained military,
and is a reasonably strong economic power, having significantly diversified
its economy in the last decade.

Free Zionist Nation (Israel)
After the chemical attack in the early part of the

area, expanding their borders and assimilating a great deal of territory.
A relatively tolerant nation, Israel recently reinstituted free elections,
after a twenty year long suspension began in 2035.

Libya
Libya is a relatively stagnant country, struggling
to keep its head above the economic water. After the socialist government
fell, a closely knit group of warlords ascended power in 2038. Though their
rule seemed at first progressive, they refused to expand their markets
and diversify their economy. With the money dwindling and the debts piling
up, the oligarchy was forced to find a solution and, in 2047, first established
the Desert Wars District for use by corporations and governments to field
test their troops and equipment.

New Persian Empire (Persia)
What appears to be a common thread among several of
the "new" nations of the Middle East hold true here as well. A charismatic
leader arose sometime during the confusion following the Crash (and the
other calamities) -- this one arising in 2036 -- and led a successful
revolution, supplanting the current government with a monarchical rule.
However, the Persian Empire's "revolution" was a relatively non-violent
one. Aside from a single violent clash between revolters and troops in
Tehran on the final day of "old" Iran's existence, the revolution consisted
of that one man's preaching about the countryside, establishing his authority
as both a physical and spiritual leader.

those population figures with a note of racism folks. The New Persian's
economy exports a lot of minerals (though it doesn't rely on that
industry). Well, they allow a lot (comparatively speaking, of course)
of dwarves to survive in order to work the mines. The dwarves are hardy
and, with their thermographic vision, can see in the dark without handy
things like flashlights, headlamps, overhead lighting, etc. The same goes
for the trolls, although they are a bit bigger than the average tunnel
a dwarf digs. For that reason, the trolls aren't as "valuable," though
they are great for enlarging the tunnels and carrying humongous loads.
Orks and elves, on the other hand, don't appear to be of any use whatsoever.
Therefore, they are put down with extreme prejudice. Shapeshifters, on
the other hand, are adored as entertainers and assassins (yeah, go figure)
and are thus allowed to thrive.]<<<<< |

Lying on the western portion of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering the Red Sea
is Tìr Oltairg, the so-called "Land of Wealth." This elven dominated
country came about abruptly and quite mysteriously, just as Tìr Tairngire
and Tìr na nÖg did. Apparently, in this case, the elves had managed
to make anonymous connections with certain powerful arms dealers, as well as
using their seemingly innate magical prowess, to clear the region of opposition,
securing their borders in only a few short months.
Just as in the case of the elves of the other two Tìrs, there is much speculation as to whether or not the choice of the land in question was haphazard or carefully planned. In this case, the speculation lies in the city of Mecca, which the elves maintain complete control over. Aside from the obvious tourist revenue they can generate from the city, it appears to lie on a primus class ley line, and the only one of its kind, size, and power in the Mid-East region.
One of the most noticeable external aspects of Tìr Oltairg is its "little brother" appearance, compared to the other two major elven nations. All three, Tìr Taringire, Tìr na nÖg, and Tìr Oltairg, are fiercly competitive between the three of them. It would seem as though they were in on some secret race and all three were jockeying for position. Despite its often overwhelming presence, it is often ignored by the other two Tìrs, who compete primarily with on another. Nevertheless, Tìr Oltairg seems to try and live up to the standards of its "big brothers" and at times even appears to surpass them.

Turkish Empire (Turkey)
A major center for trade and mercenary activities,
the Turkish Empire is a prospering nation, especially its hub of Istanbul.
It developed into an empire in the mid-2030's, finding the continuity of
a line of succession much more natural than the constant turn-over of elected
leaders. Istanbul is a thriving metropolis, a major focus of trade, given
its ideal location on the straights. The city is an odd mix of modern technology
and ancient architecture. Among the historical landmarks and the dated
buildings, Istanbul features a major aerospace port (complete with VTOL
pads and orbital launch pads), many corporate facilities, and one of the
most advanced citywide telecommunications systems in the world. Istanbul
also has a burgeoning shadowmarket, being a hub for mercenaries of all
types.
