Raised by a single mother who was an English professor and a true fanatic about Shakespeare, Tybalt Horatio Lear was given a fine education in his youth. He was tutored by his mother, who was one of the world's finest private educators.  In this respect, his childhood was a privileged one.  He had his mother's complete and undivided attention, and got to see the world, as he accompanied his mother on the lecturing curcuit throughout the academic year. However, when Tybalt was sixteen, he snuck out of their home one night and was never heard from again.  With the lack of a strong masculine personality after (or against) which to model his identity, he felt that by default he was personally responsible for who he became in life.  Feeling as though his mother had outlived her usefulness in the course of his life, he set off on his own.

Thus was Grey Madder born. In the "real world," he learned several of the necessary "hard lessons." But Grey was a sharp student and by the time he was eighteen he had gone from being a mediocre pickpocket who was barely getting by to being a master thief operating out in Amsterdam with an organized crime ring. However, Grey was restless and drifted from shadow-vocation to vocation, plying his skills as a master thief throughout the world and picking up new tricks as an enforcer, a detective, and a bodyguard. Finally he found his niche as a bodyguard, gaining an international reputation (in the right, "quiet" circles). Now twenty-six, Grey has established both a personal and professional relationship with the assassin known as Shade...
