Father
Thorax
Real Name: Arnold Cobweller
Race: Caucasoid Homo sapiens sapiens
Initiate Grade: 3 (Ant Shaman)
Professional Rating: 3
Threat Rating: 5
Father Thorax is a forty-ish, unkempt bearded man who only recently discovered his role as an Ant shaman. Up until he was about thirty-two, he pondered along as a minor sales representative for the Seattle division of the Consolidated Technologies Corporation. His who life he had always "felt the touch" of something greater, but had never known what it was past the occasional spark of a Barrier spell or the inexplicable clap of thunder. He started to fall out of favor at work when he began to take excessive leave, remaining home to cultivate his spell casting. He got the axe a week after his thirty-fourth birthday. That very same day, he discovered his powers of conjuration. Since then he has chosen his Hive and commenced to summon spirit after spirit. Originally his motivations were simple revenge -- raise an army of Ant spirits and raid CTC, ruin the people who ruined him. However, now that the Queen has established her influence in the Hive, his motivations have become nebulous and cloudy...more hers than his.
Father Thorax does not appear at all mentally stable. He suffers from delusions in addition to the apparent state of disarray his role as a shaman has left him in. His demeanor is quite aloof, detached both from society and his own general self. His psychology is complex, with a variety of different, subtle disorders playing upon each other at different times. If he were to receive modern psychological help, his condition would probably be resolved in a few short months. In fact, had he been appropriately counseled in the weeks following his seperation from CTC, many of the disorders would never have developed; most of them actually developed out of his depression, "taking advantage" of his distressed state. However, his disorders only magnify the deranged mental state brought upon by his close contact with the Ant spirits. Thorax toes a fine line between sanity and psychosis and could crack at any time. If that were to happen, the results would likely be disastrous -- he has the potential to make Seattle another Chicago. In a way, even the Queen is wary of him.

Notes
"Ant Babble" appears to be a language that Father Thorax made up in order
to communicate with his Ant spirits. Although it appears to be babble and
does not appear to link to any other known language, both Thorax and his
spirits appear to comprehend it.
Gear Notes
Because of all the tools and various items interspersed throughout the
building and the tunnels, consider him to have a General Work Facility.
Also cluttered throughout the hive are various stolen guns ranging from
hold-outs to heavy pistols, as well as a shotgun or two,
in addition to the many knives and staffs littered in the
tunnels. He also dotes over a pocket secretary* on which he keeps
copious notes, extensive essays, far-reaching plans, detailed inventories,
etc. Father Thorax also diligently documents his work (which includes the
work of his ant spirits); to help him with this, he has purchased a Fuchi
VX2200 Portacam*.
He keeps an extensive library of books on ants*. The books range from pop-up books to lengthy scientific works. There are approximately 200 books in all. Father Thorax keeps an inventory of the books on his pocket secretary.
Though it does not appear to be magically active, Father Thorax has developed a certain attachment to an ornate, decorative knife*. Its handle (carved out of the branch of a cherry tree) resemble an ant and its eyes are a pair of rubies.
Also, Thorax has developed an unidentified lung infection which has left him with a terrible wracking cough. It may be a result of years of cigarette smoking or possibly the time spent underground or any other conceivable cause. The infection has left him fatigued in the last year or so and he hobbles around his hive on an ornately carved staff*. The staff is crooked at the top and generally smooth, except for two lines of ants coiling up the shaft in a double helix.
* Indicates an item which is special (if not essential) to Father Thorax's work. If these items are stolen, they pose a threat to his mental stability, thus a drop in his effective Threat Rating.
Hive Notes
He is currently holed up in the husk of a Puyallup apartment building.
The ant spirits are digging into the ground, as well as slowly tearing
down all the building's walls.
The tunnels extend for an undetermined number of meters (possibly kilometers) around the building and deep into the ground. The tunnels threaten to interfere with sewer systems, etc., though Thorax wishes to avoid a confrontation with the rest of humanity at the moment, considering his hive to still be too weak.
