Rumors
abound with respect to this once prominent figure of academic thaumaturgy. Until
recently, Dr. Fowler was an associate professor in the department of thaumaturgy
and magickal studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and
an extremely popular professor at that. His impressive lectures on applied alchemy
and critical elemental theory were among the most well-attended in the university
and second only to his smaller seminars on practical spellcasting. While Dr.
Fowler's international reputation and legendary good-humor obviously contributed
to his popularity, he was most respected for his critical approach to modern
thaumaturgy and his fresh slant on the magickal crafts.

Dr. Fowler holds two doctorates. The first is a Ph.D. in computer science from
MIT&T (obtained at only 24) and the second is a Th.D. in applied magicks
(also from MIT&T). Interestingly, although Fowler was born after the official
onset of the Awakening, he did not discover his talents for magick until shortly
before he received his first doctorate. Originally, he had no plans of actualizing
his magickal predisposition but proceeded to enroll in MIT&T's applied magicks
program after the urging of several of the professors there. Five years later,
Orrin Oliver Fowler was a doctor twice over and had brought his knowledge of
computer science, programming, and data structure to bear on his new craft and
  passion: magickal theory.

After graduating from MIT&T, Dr. Fowler took a professorship at Georgetown
University where he began passing his knowledge on to magick's next generation
of students. He published frequently and extensively during his fifteen years
there, averaging ten articles per year on subjects ranging from critiques of
specific spell formulae to the relationship of mana/magick(ing) to the mundane.
Dr. Fowler's specific area of expertise was spell design, particularly critical
analysis of formulae, and he had carved a niche for himself by often being the
only mage to openly critique well-established and accepted principles of hermetic
science. Of specific interest to Dr. Fowler was this question: Why are there
so many formulae for the same spell? He was convinced that there was some underlying
factor or mechanism behind each variation of the same spell that could be isolated
or perhaps even a single mechanism that (if understood) served as the
  key to all magicks.

   Then,
right around the publication of his last
article, Dr. Fowler became obsessed with something he called "The Principle
Sphere" which he claimed was the key to "Reality Hacking" and
hence all of magick. Following publication of "Reality Hacking," he
announced he would be on sabbatical for the academic year beginning in the fall
  of 2055.

Dr. Fowler never returned to Georgetown University after his sabbatical although
numerous rumors indicate that he remains in the Washington-Baltimore area. The
details of each rumor suggest that he is involved with almost entirely different
things, the only unifying factor being that his present activities are definitely
intertwined with his idea of "Reality Hacking." Some believe that
Dr. Fowler has crossed over into void magic,
though the connection between void magic and reality hacking is unclear. Others
believe that Fowler has been meeting with shamans, having renounced his doctorates
and choosing to pursue involvement with the magicians he always said must possess
"some wild and innate kind of genius." The most prevalent rumor seems
to be that Fowler, for some reason sickened by academia and corporate magi,
has set out to raise a group of reality hackers to wreck social, political,
  economic, and magical havoc.
