Tactile Enhancement Pads
[ description | comments | game data ]

By implanting an array of sensors in the fingers and palms, this piece of cyberware can give a boost to the user's tactile senses. The sensors employ a thermal gauge for accurate temperature measurements in the Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin scales, as well as a LADAR (laser detection and ranging) array to determine the details and definition of any surface being examined. The base unit, implanted in the user's brain, interprets incoming data from the pads and makes it instantly accessible to the user.

>>>>>[A warning to all who are considering these: The pads seem to "sterilize" one's tactile sense. In other words, it makes the data seem like so many numbers and scientific data. Getting these can take away the comforting elements of human touch... So, if you MUST have them, I'd get them in only one hand.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Another warning! The on-board thermometers in this piece of 'ware are RIDDLED with problems. (1) Many of them are incorrectly "zeroed" during assembly by as many as 6 degrees. (2) They tend to drift several degrees, especially when the humidity is high. I recommend re-calibrating them no less than once a week. (3) They tend to give incorrect readings when trying to gauge the temperature of a fluid. (4) The default setting for output is (naturally) in Celsius, leading many N.Americans (who still use Fahrenheit for some stupid reason) to read them incorrectly. So, if you don't use Celsius, get the defaults changed BEFORE implantaion. (5) Presumably because of the low demand expected for Fahrenheit-defaulted pads, early Fuchi models contain a bug that incorrectly converts Celsius to Fahrenheit. Just thought everyone would want to know.]<<<<<
